The results from the vegetable growing experiment were then
applied in LCA and cost-benefit analysis. Current studies for composting
technologies were reviewed, as shown in Tables 1 and 2,
which provided information and estimates of process emissions
and discharges. The environmental impacts of food waste composting
were compared with disposing them in landfills. The indirect
educational and environmental benefits were also included in
the cost-benefit analysis. The end of the study described the environmental
and economic impacts by applying similar composting
systems to colleges and universities across the U.S.
