The pie chart illustrates the proportion of causes of worldwide land degradation in 1990. There are four reasons why this problem happened namely, over-grazing, over cultivation, deforestation and other. It is clear from the chart that over-grazing was the major cause.
Over – grazing was the main cause of land degradation with 35 percent while deforestation and over-cultivation came the second most important factors with the percentage of 30 and 28 respectively. The seven percent out of total of land degradation cause was from other factor, it was five times less than the figure of over-grazing.
The table provides the percentage in the effects from decreasing in agriculture land in three regions. From the table, it is readily apparent that Europe was affected in land degradation the most with 23 percent while Oceania came next with 13 percent. North America was affected from this problem the least with only five percent.
