Clowning around
Clown anemonefish, or simply clownfish, get their name from their vibrant orange and white
patterns that are alike the bright colours worn by clowns on their face and clothing. While their
movements can be wobbly and comedic, a clownfish’s funniest trick is a transformation- they’re all
born boys and then the biggest will turn into a girl!
These shallow reef dwellers are found in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, Red Sea and western
Pacific. Their symbiotic relationship with a host sea anemone is what counts them as “anemonefish”.
