A kamnan and his assistant were shot dead in their pickup in Songkhla's Singha Nakhon district on Friday afternoon.
Sitthichai Chum-in, the 39-year-old kamnan of tambon Wat Chan in Sathing Phra district and his assistant Prasit Limchu, 42, were travelling on the Songkhla-Ranot road when assailants sprayed bullets at their pickup about 4pm.
The two died instantly inside the vehicle, local police said.
Police found dozens of spent bullets from various kinds of firearms, including an AK47, M16 rifle and 9mm pistol.
Police believed the motive for the murder stemmed from political conflicts.
Sitthichai recently survived an assassination, prompting him to install bullet-resistant windows in his pickup truck, a police source said.
Police are investigating the case.
