The prang stood in the middle of the ancient compound representing the cosmic Mount Meru. On the lowest level of the top-part of the prang are decorated Garuda and Naga sculptures still visible.
Wat Ratchaburana is one of the big and oldest temples in Ayutthaya. This temple was started during the reign of King Boromrachathirat II or Chao Sam Phraya. The temple was built to hold the ashes of his elder brothers Ai Phraya and Prince Yi Phraya fought each other for the throne and died in combat.
