Introduction
Laryngeal carcinoma is the second most common
malignancy of the upper aerodigestive tract, and
85–95% of laryngeal malignancies are squamous
cell carcinoma (SCC) [1]. Tobacco smoking and
alcohol intake are the major risk factors for laryngeal
and pharyngeal carcinoma. Other factors such
as human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, environmental
or occupational exposures and gastroesophageal
reflux have also been related to the
disease.
