3.3 Effect of trees on micro-climate
Ramakrishna and Shastri [23] studied the effect of seven year-old A.
tortilis trees on the microclimate of guar (cluster bean) crop. The relative
humidity under the tree canopy during the active cropping period of guar
was 7 per cent higher than that in the plot of crop without trees. The air
and soil temperatures were also less under the tree canopy. The subsurface
(0.5cm depth) temperature under tree canopy was lowered by
10-16°C, while at 30cm depth, the temperature was lowered by 4-5'~C.
