As a coastal state, four countries have a duty to secure the waters in their
national jurisdiction. Strait of Malacca is the one of busiest waters in the world that
has a strategic value especially for Coastal States and Asia Pacific. The density of the
traffics brings vulnerability for ships that pass through the strait because of actual
threats and potential threat. Although, there are significant differences in the
definition of piracy issued by IMO and IMB, but the debate is not profitable anyone
other than the crime perpetrators.
