The Joetsu Tokyo Nodai, Inc. received the President Award from the National Chamber of Agriculture, Japan, on the May, 26 in 2011from its contribution in clearing of abandoned farmlands. In Japan, there are abandoned fields more than 300,000 hectares and most of them are located on hill and mountain areas. It is one of the major problems forJapanese agriculture. The government has made the policies to promote the way to clearing, rehabilitation and utilization of these fields. However, the Joetsu Tokyo Nodai, Inc. cleared about 10 hectares and has been conduced organic farming for more than three years. It might be a small contribution to the increased food production and conservation of national resources, but it would be the great start to following the government policies. There are three conditions required for organic farming. First, the farms has no used of chemical fertilizer and synthetic chemical pesticide for more than two years. Second, the farms never use of genetically modified (GM) seeds. And third, is it has produced with a minimum environmental stress resulting from agricultural production.
