The organization that requires the implementation of a new ordering system is a fast-food
restaurant. The restaurant usually have the same clientele, generally represented by the young
generation, but the boundaries are expanded even to the older one. The aspect that describe this
fast-food is that the orders has to be done quick. Because of falling behind from this point of
view, the restaurant wants to improve in the ordering system and to have a mechanism that is
quick and efficient.
The purpose of this report is to present a good design solution for a quick-service restaurant
which is looking to improve their ordering system. This solution will be an automated selfservice
application, which is allowing the customer to order the food by interacting with a kiosk.
The scope of the project aims to implement the design to a kiosk machine in order for the
customer to have an efficient and quick way of ordering the food. This is done by applying rules
that will make the interface easy-to use and accessible. The methodology used is "The Eight
Golden Rule of Interface Design" and "Well known user interface design rules & guidelines".
The type of kiosk that has been chosen for the project is a touch screen kiosk which allows the
customer to directly interact with the screen. The size of the screen will let the client to clearly
identify the items and to have an easy navigation. A wide screen will be selected and the size
will be 24. The number of kiosks needed for the restaurant will be five machines, including
another two for the drive-through. The user will navigate through ten pages through his order and
the estimated time for an order will be between four and seven minutes, demonstrating a good
usability.
The machine is very efficient and easy to use. The satisfaction of deliverables will consist in a
accessible application that will conduct the customer to make an order in a time that will pleased
the restaurant. Queues will be avoided by having more than one machine and also confident
customers that will go through their order very easily.
As a recommendation, the customers should get used with the kiosk machines placed at the
entry of the restaurants and then after being confidents to use the drive-through ones.
