In this study, healthcare professionals were interviewed about quality of care and interventions to prevent
seclusion. In the interviews, various cases were mentioned. The names of the patients were not known to the
researchers. The cases actually took place on the ward. In the cases, successes and failures in preventing seclusion
and applying ‘‘The first fiveminutes at admission’’ were mentioned. The casematerial was used to create
two hypothetical cases. Thus, recognition of patients on the ward was avoided. The cases in this article cannot
be traced to actual patients. The patients on the ward had been informed that research concerning quality of
care is regularly done in the organization. Since no data about specific patients were gathered, and only healthcare
professionals were interviewed, assessment by the internal review board was not needed.
