Several lifestyle intervention trials have shown a remarkable
reduction of type 2 diabetes risk in individuals with
pre-diabetes. This can be achieved by dietary modifications
and increased physical activity which ameliorate insulin resistance
[12,13]. Therefore, diagnosis of pre-diabetes at the
postpartum follow-up after GDM pregnancy serves as a
second alarm and recognizes a subgroup which should
be in a focus of targeted prevention measures for type 2
diabetes.
