- Isayama doesn’t want romance explicitly in his manga, but no doubt has his own plans and ideas and background history for his characters as he’s shown. So if he doesn’t want it included in his main story, it seems logical that he’d advise folks doing spin-off manga’s in a similar direction as his back stories he otherwise won’t put in his own story for the sake of pacing etc. So in every SNK spin off we have Levi and Hange paired up quite close, to the point where in the middle school spin-off (which is overseen/written by Isayama) Levi and Hange are inseparable idiots who have their own band and who look out for another, live next to each other, Levi cleans her room, cooks for her, helps her when she’s struggling (and hello manga romance bubbles).
