Statistical analyses were performed using the ANOVA directive
of GenStat (15th edition). The least significant difference (LSD)was
used to determine statistical variation between the sample means
at the 5% significance level. The standard error of the difference
(SED) was calculated by dividing the LSD (5%) by the t value (at the
5% significance level).
Non-normally distributed data were transformed (to a log or
rank scale) prior to statistical analysis. Where transformation was
required, all conclusions were drawn from the analysis on the
transformed scale; however, to maintain standard units, the means
and error presented are the back-transformed data.
