Thailand's smartphone market is near the saturation point and has reached the same level as in some developed countries, says leading handset maker samsung.
The local retail handset market will see a flat growth rate this year, said Wichai Pornpratang, corporate vice-president for It and mobile communications at thai samsung Electronics, the local arm of the South Korean gaint.
"Selling phones at subsidied prices through major mobile operators [ in a bid to migrate customers from 2G or 3G to 4G] looks set to be the sole factor boosting this year's sales," Mr Wichai said at the four - day Thailand Mobile Expo, which runs through Sunday at Queen Sirikit National Convention Center.
