In the present study, it was found that participants in the
symptomatic group drank more alcohol and smoked more
cigarettes. Therefore, healthcare providers should identify
risk behaviors of adolescents with asthma, and counsel the
patients and their parents simultaneously. School nurses
should intensely monitor and care for students with asthma.
Parents should reduce secondhand smoke and pay attention
to the health care of their children with asthma. Further
investigations of factors for health risk behaviors are warranted
to establish intervention for altering these behaviors
in adolescents with asthma.
