To control electrical appliances through a smart phone is getting popular, but most designs are for on/off outlets, while some are coupled with the current detection, and they also need a server to control the outlets [4-5]. We design a remote control for home lighting devices with radio-frequency identification and current detection of the outlets. Each plug of a lighting device has an embedded RFID chip, and because each chip is unique, the system is able to know what lighting device is plugged into the outlets. In this design the operation status includes the outlet status, and the current detection result is directly sent to the smartphone through a paired Bluetooth module when the user’s phone is close to the outlet. No extra server is needed to manage the outlets.
