Fruit treated with OA significantly suppressed and delayed climacteric respiration peak, as compared to untreated fruit Moreover, there was an inverse relation- ship between concentrations of OA applied and respiration rate. Fruit treated with 5 mmol/L OA exhibited about 1.52-fold higher suppression in the respiration rate than control. A similar trend in respiration rate was observed during storage of 28 days stored fruit. All the OA-treated fruit reduced the respiration rate as compared to untreated ones whilst, no significant differences was observed among the OA treatments After 28 days of storage, mean respiration rate was 1.24-,1.32- and 1.50-fold in OA-treated fruit OA, respectively, compared to control. The interactions between OA treatments and ripening period as well as storage period were found to be significant for respiration rate.
