Prevalence of S. indicum was higher in the summer (52%) than the winter (22.66%) season (Table 2). In
winter season, many snails undergo hibernation (Kotpal, 2001). Many snails die under the mud in the winter. So
there is scarcity of snail intermediate hosts of S. indicum in the environment. Besides, in hibernating snails,
paediogenesis of trematode is significantly low (Urquhart et al., 1996). On the other hand, later part of summer,
raining usually occurs in Bangladesh and snails become available. Probably these factors play an important role
in the higher prevalence of S. indicum in Black Bengal goats in summer.
