If the study presented in the manuscript submitted for review is part of a larger study, the researchers need to provide enough content for readers to understand both studies. The explanation does not need to be lengthy, but it needs to be clear enough so that readers can understand how the current study fits into the larger study and which elements of the larger study are relevant to the study they are reading. It is not enough to refer readers to other articles for an explanation of the larger study. The length of pages per article allowed by some journals may lead researchers to decide to present their findings in several publications, but researchers should carefully attend to the guidance provided in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (6th ed.; American Psychological Association, 2010) regarding piecemeal publication of data.
