This study employed a theory-based, EIM to better understand the rapid acceptance of purchasing cards by different stakeholders such as the customer organization, vendors, employees, and banks. The model provided useful insights for understanding the issues that may help shape the acceptance or resistance behavior of stakeholders in this purchasing card implementation. The rapid adoption of purchasing cards in the industry is supported by the model and the analysis presented in this paper. The EIM and the analysis approach suggested in this paper should also be useful in studying the implementation of other innovations and process changes by providing a better understanding of the interests of different stakeholders involved in the implementation.
