Variation of midwives’ approaches to EPU
over time
The majority of the participants reported that their
approach to EPU evolved during the course of their
professional career
In particular, the midwives
felt they had acquired increased professional
competence, self-confidence and awareness of
the physiology of childbirth. They also mentioned
their increased ability to establish a stronger
woman–midwife relationship:
‘Yes, my approach has surely changed
due to my experience. Now I feel more
confident in my everyday practice
and I am aware that EPU might occur
sometimes.’
