4. Conclusion
Although it has lower antioxidant activity than other Citrus varieties,
Maltaise demi-sanguine contains high amounts of phenolic
compounds and fatty acids considered to have positive biological
activity. The evaluation of major compounds of Maltaise demiSanguine
orange juice produced under conventional and organic agricultural practices revealed significant differences.
Organically-grown fruit contained higher concentrations of
hesperidin and total fatty acids. In addition and overall, Maltaise
demi-sanguine juices were found to be rich sources of linoleic,
linolenic acids, vitamin C and phenolic compounds.
Conventionally-farmed contained a higher overall phenolic
compound concentration
