The C6 structural carbohydrate content was found to be in line with Zahari et al., 2012 [13] and Long-Wee and Ani 2013 [24] which were close to 42% and the difference between these three reports were less than 1.1%. C5 structural carbohydrate content in this study was 14.8%, a result which was close to the value 16.4%, result reported by Zahari et al. [13]. However, the report on C5 structural carbohydrate by Long-Wee and Ani 2013 [24] was somewhat higher, which was about 33.6%. These differences could be due to the different pre-treatment methods applied by these research groups. However, all of the studies showed high level of carbohydrate content in OPF, putting OPF as one of the highly promising carbon sources for biochemical industries.
