We included children who lived in Munich or Wesel at the age of 10 years, for whom data on air pollution estimates at the home address and bone turnover markers were available (total number is 2264, of which 1429 and 835 were from Munich and Wesel, respectively). In addition, the distance between the home address and the nearest major road was also included as an indicator of traffic-related air pollution exposure.
