Increase in the Corporate Income Tax Rebate on ECI Filed for Years of Assessment (YAs) 2016 and 2017
New! In Budget 2016, the Minister for Finance announced that the Corporate Income Tax Rebate for YAs 2016 and 2017 will be raised from 30% to 50% of the corporate tax payable, subject to a cap of $20,000 per YA.
Companies need not factor in the Corporate Income Tax Rebate when filing their ECI for YAs 2016 and 2017 as IRAS will compute and allow the rebate automatically.
Companies that have filed their ECI for YA 2016 and/ or YA 2017 are not required to send in a revised ECI. However, they must make payment for the tax payable by the due date. If the companies are paying the tax by instalments, they must continue with the payment schedule as per the instalment plan.
IRAS will re-compute the Corporate Income Tax Rebate, issue revised Notices of Assessment (NOAs) and make a refund for any excess tax paid to all affected Companies by June 2016. If the company is paying the tax by instalments, the revised instalment plan will be issued to the company with the revised NOA.
Companies can contact IRAS if they do not receive the revised NOA by mid-July 2016.
