Annual Leave:
Scheduling annual leave early helps management plan staffing over the year to meet work demands and provides ample time and opportunity for rescheduling leave when personal plans change or operational demands require a change. Both management and employees are responsible for the planning and effective scheduling of annual leave for use throughout the year to avoid forfeiture. Please remember, when requesting annual leave employees must complete the application for leave (OPM form 71) in advance and submit the request to their supervisor at least ONE week (5 working days) prior to the first requested annual leave day. The approved form should then be submitted to the time keeper (K. Nok) for processing.
For emergency and unforeseen annual leave requests, employees MUST notify their immediate supervisor, who must then obtain verbal or written approval from the American supervisor. Employees should submit the completed application for leave on the first day, they return back to work. Annual leave taken without notification of the immediate supervisor and approval of the American supervisor in advance will be considered “Leave without Pay.”
While it is the policy of the Consulate that employees use their full amount of annual leave each year, work requirements will be the determining factor in approving annual leave and must take precedence over the employee’s personal wishes if the approval of a request for leave would conflict with work scheduling and Consulate needs.
