Queuing theory was pioneered by Erlang while working as an engineer at the Copenhagen Telephone Exchange to analyze
a telecommunication system based on probability theory (Brockmeyer et al., 1948). Traffic analysis is not alone in having the
problem of queuing. Many non-transportation fields such as the design and operation of industrial plants, retail stores, grocery
stores, theme parks, past food restaurants and computer networks also share the concern of queuing. Since queues
influence performance and productivity in various fields, a significant number of research has been conducted (Mannering
et al., 2007).
