In an attempt to determine the best concentration for the
hydrolysis of SM, we performed a concentration test in which we
varied the concentrations in the soybean molasses hydrolysis step
and subsequently fermented those solutions. The following concentrations
of SM were employed: 500 g/L, 333 g/L and 250 g/L. The
hydrolysis was performed for 10 h in a batch reactor at 55 ◦C and
pH 4.5 with 0.050% enzyme and agitation at 230 rpm. The fermentations
were conducted in a batch reactor with a working volume
of 1.5 L per 12 h at an initial pH of 4.5 and 35
±
1 ◦C using 35 g/L of
inoculum and 230 rpm agitation. The data from this experiment are
presented in Table 5.
