The density of A. lucorum was estimated every four days from
early June to early September by visually inspecting 20 cotton
plants at five randomly chosen sampling sites in each plot. Thus, on
any sampling day the total number of nymphs and adults were
counted on 100 cotton plants in each plot. The visual inspections of
each entire plant, with particular attention to the flowers and
squares where the feeding insects might be hidden, were carried
out during morning (8.00e10.00 h) or afternoon (16.00e18.00 h)
while the adult was actively feeding rather than flying.
