The MSU Symphony Orchestra, directed by Kevin Noe, maintains an intense schedule of eight orchestral performances and two full opera productions each academic season. Focusing on maximizing learning through the rehearsal process rather than on the performances themselves, the symphony orchestra seeks to further develop musicians of all levels. Key ensemble skills include advanced listening and rhythmic techniques, score-based interpretation, and a stylistic awareness appropriate to the period of the work’s creation.
Participation in the Symphony Orchestra is by blind audition only. Auditions are scheduled the weekend before the beginning of fall and spring semesters.
