The poor performance has been traced to several factors which may include the methods of teaching employed by the
teachers which is not in line with the modern methods that involves the use of information technology and some other
novel and interesting methods that can make the students to learn the subject meaningfully. Etiubon (2007) identified
teaching resources and its manipulative adaptations as a factor. Similarly, Ezeliora (1999) and Eniayeju (2005) also
pointed out that the use of concrete materials facilitates better and proper understanding of chemistry concepts. Salau
(2003) and Njoku (2004) identified students’ attitude towards learning as a factor.
