on a comprehensive procedure
for explicitly teaching the stages of the

writing process. In a seminal study,
Englert et al. (1991) tested an approach to the writing process called cognitive
strategy instruction in writing. The
study was conducted simultaneously
in both general and special education
settings and included students both
with and without LD. Students in the
cognitive strategy instruction condition
received 5 months of instruction
