The six model biofilters used in this study were run under
two conditions: submerged and flood/drain. In the submerged
condition three biofilters (A–C) were run with the gravel in the
biofilter permanently submerged. The remaining three biofilters
(D–F) were operated as flood/drain biofilters with periodic draining
and reflooding of the biofilters with wastewater.
