Platelet function measurements with PFA 100W
Measurements with the platelet function analyzer PFA-
100W were performed according to the manufacturer’s
instructions using the collagen/adenosine-5′-diphosphate
(CAPD) cartridge and the collagen/epinephrine
(CEPI) cartridge (Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics
GmbH, Eschborn, Germany). The blood sample was
filled into the cartridge and sucked under a constant
vacuum of 40 mmHg through a capillary membrane.
The membranes central aperture is coated with different
agonists that induce platelet activation. “Closure time” is
defined as the time, which is required to completely
close this aperture (in sec, maximal testing time
300 sec). The “total volume” (in μL) describes the
amount of blood needed to achieve closure.
