To provide students with feedback on these skills, educators need to understand clearly
what it means to have professional skills in engineering, and they need to know how to effectively
provide students with feedback on these skills. In this article, we focus primarily on the
first need by investigating how professional skills are enacted in a specific, industrially situated
project, and how those skills and the feedback given on them provide students experience
with integral aspects of engineering practice. Through this approach, we give a deeper understanding
of what it means to have professional skills in this project and in engineering.
