Conclusion
Japan’s long-term care policies for the elderly aim to
create multifaceted care integration in local communities.
They respect the value of continuity of life in
the community for the elderly, as well as the economy
of such measures. Japan’s experience in communitybased
care integration suggests that this project
requires the integration of social care and medical
care, the inclusion of informal mutual aid, administrative
restraints on profit-seeking and coordination
between systems with different geographical spheres.
In order to determine the effectiveness of these initiatives,
empirical assessments are necessary
