Lemongrass oil consisted highest percentage of
citral and b-citral (Table 2). There are reports where
citral a and b are indicated as fungicidal constituents in
lemongrass oil (Paranagama 2003). Previous work on
antimicrobial activities of several essential oil components
indicated that cineole, citral, geraniol, linalool
and menthol were active against several yeast-like and
filamentous fungi (Pattnaik et al. 1997). Lemongrass oil
has also exhibited antifungal activity against Botrytis
cinerea (Wilson et al. 1997). Thus it may be concluded
that citral is acting against FOC whereas it is not efficient
in inhibiting A. porri
