Last night Pattaya One reporters were informed by Ms. Paranisa Chainapanichkul, the owner of the Nangfah Kareoke Bar on Third Road at the center of the police extortion and false imprisonment allegations, that she has now been offered 500,000 baht from a high-ranking Royal Thai police officer in exchange for withdrawing her complaint.
The bribe, she says, came from a senior police officer however after consulting with people she trusted and respected, she has decided to refuse the offer and continue to pursue justice.
In addition, Ms. Paranisa has been contacted by a television channel who want to make a story about this sordid affair and she is keen on the press revealing the full details of the police extortion attempt.
Later Pattaya One reporters attempted to contact one of the officers at the center of the allegations, Pol Lt Col Narawuth Karamhito, and although he did answer on this occasion he refused to make any comment specifically about the allegations.
He did say he had a meeting with his superior officer and that he would call us back but it must have slipped his mind as we did not hear from him again.
He also mentioned that he had been called by his brother who told him their mother had seen the news and passed out with the shock. He said as a son he was very upset and sorry about that.
When asked about insulting the Commissioner General, Narawuth explained that he had never met him and insisted he didn’t mean to insult him and has apologized.
He hasn’t, however, apologized to the bar owner for kidnapping her, threatening to hit her, threatening to lay false charges that could carry a jail sentence and attempting to extort money from her. Nor has he apologized to the people of Pattaya whom he is supposed to ‘Protect and Serve.’
When asked about his withdrawal from service in Pattaya, and relocation, he confirmed he was ready to do as instructed and will spend his time now proving himself a decent officer, worthy of the position.
