Date palm (Phoenix dactylifera L.) is an important commercial
crop in the Middle East, particularly in Oman and
the Gulf states (Al-Yahyai and Al-Khanjari, 2008) where
180,000 and 3 million tons of palm leaflets are produced
annually, respectively. Burning in the field is a common
practice that poses environmental problems. The objective
of this research was to prepare a carbonaceous adsorbent
from date palm leaflets using sulphuric acid carbonization,
and to investigate its capability for the adsorption of CIP
from aqueous solution in terms of kinetics and equilibrium
