Although the experimental group exhibited improvements in recovering physical functioning and the regularity of rehabilitation exercise compared with the control group, no significant difference in the hospital LOS was observed between the study groups, consistent with the findings of Kearney et al. (2011) and McDonald et al. (2004). However, such results differ from the findings by Yeh et al. (2005). Thus, additional studies on the effects of education interventions on the hospital LOS are warranted to resolve these inconsistencies. Furthermore, in the present study, the LOS for the experimental group was 075 days shorter (639 vs. 714) than the control group, which might be reflected in medical costs. In future studies, in addition to comparing the number of hospital days, medical costs could be another explored variable.
