Lesson COG 33
Task: Sort by size.
Prerequisites: COG 25, COG 28
Concept: In this exercise, the items to be used do not need to be identical in every respect except for size. Previously the size exercises (see the prerequisites) related to small, medium, and large items of the some colors and shape. In this sample lesson, a wider range of sizes, shapes, and colors are used. Suggested items include bolts, washers, cons of food, and cookies.
Behavioral Objective: When presented with 3 randomly selected items (each of the 3 should have a very similar size) from a field of 5 (roughly equal in size) taught items, with a container behind each of these items, the student will select from a pile of at least 22 items all items that match the size of the 3 items presented and place them in the container by each example. He or she will not select items that do not match the 3 selections to a 90% accuracy level for 20 trials.
Materials: Attempt to find items that are of five different but similar sizes and are likely to be encountered in the student's living or potential work environments. For example, a fast-food restaurant has numerous items that can be arranged by size.
