The composi-tion of this effluent and its release into the environment withoutappropriate previous treatment has serious impact to aquatic envi-ronment. Molasses wastewaters generallyresist to microbial degradation and to conventional biological treat-ment processes. The decolorization of molasses and degradationof melanoidins have been achieved by the use of chemical andphysicochemical treatment processes. Those treatment methodsare considered to be quite expensive and unstable especially inlarge scale . Fungi, bacteria and yeasts havebeen cultivated on molasses for melanoidin degradation, the reduc-tion of BOD and COD values and for the production of added-valuemetabolites
