The library manager must be flexible and adapt to situations without abandoning sound principles. Even where
some members of top management appear to show preference for some erring members of staff instead of
justice for all, a sensible library manager will document the steps taken in every situation and leave the records
for posterity to see, read and judge. Staff should not be forced to comply with instructions, because, generally,
human beings resist coercion. If force is applied, it may result in a physical confrontation which will worsen an
already bad situation.
