History and origin of the name
The station is open on May 15, 1935 as a part of the first starting site of Moscow Metro — "Sokolniki" — "Park of Culture" with branch "Okhotny Ryad" — "Smolensk". Since January 30, 1952 it is connected by change to the station of the Ring line of the same name. I have received the name on Komsomolskaya Square to which comes. The square has received the name in 1933 in connection with the 15 anniversary of creation of All-Union Leninist Young Communist League. Earlier the area was called Kalanchyovska — on the imperial traveling palace existing here in the 17th century with a high tower — kalanchy. At return of historical names it was in the early nineties planned to return the areas the historical name Kalanchyovskaya and also to rename metro station, but have refused it.
On March 15, 1941 the station is noted by the Stalin award of the 1st degree.
