Ten were placed directly in a dry-room
maintained at 15% relative humidity (RH) and 15 8C; 30 were
put into a humidification room maintained at 80% RH and
15 8C with 8 h light/16 h dark. Ten of these capsules were
removed after each of 30, 60, and 90 d and transferred to the
dry-room. At the same time, further capsules, originating from
the same flowering period, were taken from the trees at 30 and
60 d (3 February and 2 March 2004) and also put into the dryroom
in order to follow on-plant seed development. Seeds at
90 d could not be collected from the trees as seed dispersal from
the capsules had already begun.
