The criteria for ESZs in forest ecosystems are shown in Table 6.5.8. The delineation of ESZ for forest ecosystem and wildlife protection aims to preserve and conserve forest ecosystems, and protect wildlife habitat. In the REO8 jurisdiction, forest where the higher elevation areas, such as higher than 200m elevations, in general have more remaining natural forest (see Figure 3.1.11) and are those areas that are difficult to access and hence, development is costly. At the same time, trees in higher elevation areas are vulnerable and of comparatively slower growth. It is important that forests in the upland areas should be conserved, and the denuded areas in upland areas should be restored.
