To prepare active inoculums for fermentation, the yeasts
were activated by culturing them in 50 mL of a medium containing
10 g L1 yeast extract, 20 g L1 peptone (YP medium), and 50 g L1
glucose for S. cerevisiae Thermosac® DRY or xylose for C. tropicalis
TISTR5045 at 37 C and 200 rpm on a rotary shaker overnight
