Four multiparous lactating Holstein cows(third parity; 656±55 kg of live weight; 83±10 days in milk;
35±4 kg/day milk yield) were separated from the rest of the herd and housed in tie stalls. In a balanced 4×4
Latin square design, cows were randomly assigned tone of the fou rdietary treatments including: control diet (C) in which the unprocessed whole soybeans seed was used as the main source of FA and RUP; control diet plus 24 mg of monensin/kg of DM (M); diet containing roasted whole soybeans seed (R), and the R diet plus 24 mg of monensin/kg of DM (RM) (Table1). The diets contained 40% fo rageand 60% of a concentrate mixture. Monensin was included in the ration at maximum recommended inclusion level for dairy cattle rations (Canadian FoodInspectionAgency,2011).The whole unprocessed soybeans seed and the whole roasted soybeans seed (140 1C for20 min) used in the experimental diets were supplied by a commercial supplier (Gold co, Isfahan, Iran).Each experimental period lasted 21d with 14d of treatment adaptation and 7d of data collection. All the diets were formulated based on National ResearchCouncil,2001 recommendations. The cows were fed the total mixed rations (TMR) ad libitum
with a 10% daily refusal. All cows were individually fed twice daily at 0800 and 1600 h with approximately 60% and 40% of total daily feed allocation at each feeding, respectively. The cows had free access to drinking water and were milked three times daily at 0830,1600 and 2400 h. The fatty acids profile of experimental diets , whole unprocessed soybeans seed and whole roasted soybeans seed are displayed in Table 2.
