an online program is one where at least 80 percent of the program content is
delivered online and a blended program is one where between 30 and 79 percent of the
program content is delivered online. Institutions have a number of options in how they can
choose to structure a blended program – they might, for example, craft a program as a mix
of fully online and face-to-face courses. Alternatively, an institution may decide the best
option for a particular program is for all the courses to be blended in nature. In this case
the program might not contain any fully online or face-to-face courses. Obviously,
institutions can mix and match between these two approaches. As long as the proportion
of the program content delivered online falls in the 30 to 79 percent range, the program is
classified as blended for purposes of this study.
